How can I contact my child in an emergency?
Because we maintain a no-cell-phone policy for campers, all urgent communication goes through our camp leadership team. You will be provided with a direct emergency phone number for the Camp Directors at check-in.
What happens if my child gets homesick?
Our staff is excellent at keeping kids engaged, active, and included. If a camper is struggling, our leadership team will step in to provide extra care and will reach out to you directly if a phone call home becomes necessary.
Who supervises the campers?
Crossroads Camp is overseen directly by Camp Directors Tony and Sherry Butler. We have highly experienced head counselors, who supervise individual group counselors. All staff members undergo a strict vetting process, including personal interviews, background checks, and mandatory safety training modules.
What is the policy for camper medications?
All medications (including prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, and vitamins) must be turned in to our camp medical staff during check-in on the first day.
All medications must be in their original pharmacy containers clearly labeled with your child's name, correct dosage, and schedule.
Our staff oversees the secure storage and timely distribution of all medication. For safety reasons, campers are not permitted to keep any medication in their cabins or backpacks.
How do you handle severe food allergies or dietary restrictions?
We take camper health and food allergies very seriously. When you fill out your camper's registration forms, there is a dedicated section to list any severe allergies (such as peanuts, gluten, or dairy) or medical dietary restrictions. Hargis Christian Camp prepares all food for the week. We work directly with Hargis to communicate any food needs or restrictions a camper may have.
Can I visit my child during camp?
Yes! We welcome parents to visit at any time. Parents need to check-in with Crossroads Camp leadership immediately upon arrival. Parents are generally not allowed in the bunk areas unless cleared by Crossroads Camp staff and only to assist a camper loading or unloading. Parents are also welcome to join us for meals ($10 per non-camper per meal).
How do you handle severe weather and extreme summer heat?
We closely monitor local weather patterns. In the event of summer thunderstorms, we immediately move campers indoors. Hargis lifeguards carefully police water activities when lightning is in the area. We also monitor camper water intake to ensure everyone stays healthy and hydrated during extreme summer heat.
Is there a camp store or a need for extra spending money?
We have a designated camp concession stand open during free time. You can deposit money into your child's account during check-in so they don’t have to keep up with loose cash in their cabins. Any unspent money will be returned to you at checkout. We recommend approximately $5 per day.
